Himalayas
The magnificence of the Himalayas is not just on account of its awe-inspiring height, but several geographical features like its complex geological structure, glaciers, deep gorges, and florid vegetation. The Himalayas mountain chain extends from west to east for about 2,500 km from the Pamit Knot in the north-west to the valley of the Brahmaputra River in the east. Nainital

Shimla
Shimla is a tourist destination favoured for its pine and deodar forest cover, cool climate and good connectivity with the plains. Nestling in the north-west Himalayas at an altitude of 2,213 meters, it is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh in North India. Blessed with an 18 sq km mountainous region, it earned the sobriquet of “Queen of the hills” by the British. Tourists have the option to trek in the Kullu valley or indulge in trout fishing at the Pabbar River. Skiing facilities at Narkanda and Kufri makes January to mid-March a most buzzing season. The nine-hole golf course at Naldehra is also a major draw for tourists from India and across the world. The biggest driver industry in Shimla is hospitality, travel and tourism. There are over 1000 hotels in Shimla which register peak occupancies during the summer season. Even with urbanized development, the town retains a sort of a colonial aura, with its imposing buildings of the Raj. Porters double up as travel guides and touts for hotels. This beautiful hill resort does not disappoint anyone who is willing to indulge in a shopping spree. The Mall showcases the best in garment and textile industry. The State emporium can be visited for himachali (local) handicrafts and handloom items. Indigenous hats make perfect souvenirs for friends and relatives. The hill town also boasts of dry fruits and natural herbs with medicinal properties. Several local shops exist among which Lakkar Bazaar serves as a one stop market for wooden items.

Kullu - Manali: Valley of the God
Manali is in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India and gets its name from Manavalaya, which means ‘the abode of Manu’ who according to the Hindu mythology, is said to have fathered the human race. Famous for excursion trips and trekking camps, Manali retains its charm and beauty for tourists looking for myriad of adventure options, be it skiing, rafting down the Beas or indulding in some amateurish angling. The valley reaches up to the Rohtang Pass at 13050 feet, while the beautiful Manali is nestled between the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. The panoramic view is afforded by the Himalayas on one side, river Beas cutting across the town, valleys with meadows and apple orchards and grazing cattle on the hillsides. The local flavour can be experienced when visiting temples and quaint villages and participating in the festive mood of the people, their colorful traditional clothing and handicrafts. The folk music and romance in the ambience adds to its magical charms, reaffirming its promise of the “Valley of the Gods".

Mussoorie
Situated at a distance of about 250 miles from Delhi, this hill station of astounding beauty is called the 'queen of hills'. The scenic beauty here attracts tourists from different parts of India. Mussoorie is 7000 feet above the sea level. This paradisiacal destination was discovered by an army officer in 1827. Known for its view of the snow-covered Himalayas and the Doon valley, Mussoorie has something for everybody. The Kempty Waterfall, the largest waterfall in India is a major draw. With several trekking trails and spots for the adventurous, Nag Tibba in Mussoorie takes the first place. Mussoorie does owe most of its appeal to its pleasant weather, though. The best time for a tourist visit is either between mid-April to mid-May or September to November. Some of the most reputed institutes are the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Waverley Convent, Defense Institute of Work Studies and others. The famous Mall Road in Mussoorie is a long stretch offering everything from souvenirs to handicrafts to antiques to hill jewellery and many beautiful items.

Darjeeling
One of the major hill stations on top of every tourist Itinery is Darjeeling, nestled in the Siwalik Range of the lesser Himalayas. Situated in the Northern Part of the Indian state of West Bengal, the city’s location and natural beauty has allowed it to carve a name for itself. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railways is one among the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is also world-famous for its tea industry. There are several tourist destinations in Darjeeling perfect for holidaying. Among the major tourist attractions is the Tiger Hill, which is situated at an elevation of about 2590 m and gives a splendid view of the sunrise over Kanchanjunga in shades of gold, orange and magenta. In the mornings, with the fog slowly lifting in the slightly penetrating sun, the town bustles to life. Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak is clearly visible from here. Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park, located about 10 km from the town are most frequented picnic spots. Other important places in the city worth visiting are the Ava Art Gallery, Darjeeling Mall, Batasia loop, Lloyd Botanical Garden, Nightingale park, Darjeeling-Rangit Valley Passenger Cable Car popularly called the ‘ropeway’, observatory hills, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the monasteries. Neighbouring areas around Darjeeling like Kalimpong, Kurseong, and Mirik makes for weekend getaways. Accompanying the brewing of tea can be heard the sing-song Gorkhali, the local dialect.
