Bihar improves number of tourists in the past few years

The number of tourists visiting Bihar in the past few years has increased more. According to a statistics, about 18 millions of domestic tourists and 0.92 million of foreign tourists have visited Bihar in 2011. This statistic has increased to about 21 millions of domestic and 1.1 million of foreign tourists now. Moreover, the state broadly expects an increase in the number of tourists visiting Bihar to increase by 2013 by 20 per cent. This would be a good growth in the tourism industry of Bihar. Besides, the Department of Tourism in Bihar is focusing on reorienting the policy for capturing more Buddhist followers to visit the state which is strong as 500 to 700 million. This visit of Buddhist would give a new dimension to the state’s tourism industry and also a potential increase in the growth of the state’s economy. Bihar offers a wide range of Buddhist related products and the Tourism Secretary of Bihar, Mihir Kumar Singh states that the state expects about 112 crores from the Central Government plan and about 106 crores from the State plan, moreover they also expect about 100 cores for the Nalanda.

There are many highlighting Buddhist places in Bihar such as Rajgir, Viashali, Bodh Gaya and Nalanda. There were already many international visitors visiting Bihar and this has enabled the state to capture the Buddhist overseas markets by up to 700 million which is strong of course in Thailand, Laos, China, Cambodia, Japan and in other nations that are following Buddhism.

Bihar experiences the season for tourism from late September to March and also in the month of May. There is also a 5 day season especially during the Baisakhi Purnima which is also known as the enlightenment day of Buddha; therefore the department of Tourism is attempting to extend the period of season by taking many measures to especially attract visitors from other foreign countries through various religious ceremonies that will formally end at Mahabodhi Temple. The ceremonies are done by monasteries and the process for such celebrations has already started with. However, the venues and dates will be fixed according to monastery and country wise and the monasteries, media and the Indian Embassies will do the publicity in foreign countries. We moreover hold many meetings and Buddhist Conclaves, besides we do have many other initiatives to be done such as gathering all the religious heads at one place.
